Aspects of Modern Town Planning

Humankind has made some fantastic advancements and achievements and one of those is the aspect of town planning. Where once towns grew and developed over time as more people moved to an area and added on to the structures there, today you can hire a town planner Logan, for example, and they can carefully plan out a town in consultation with others like engineers to get a successfully running modern town thriving with a population, businesses, and residencies.

There are various aspects to modern town planning and it involves considering a lot of different areas of development in engineering and technology too. When it comes to planning a settlement in any area a town planner Gold Coast, for example, would consider the following.

Surveying the land – This means looking at the structure of the soil, the level of endurance the land had and much more. Too often when this step has been skipped, settlements are built on land that cannot handle it. A proper site survey will also look at the risk of natural phenomena like earthquakes.

Testing the soil – This will reveal if there are any natural resources the town can take advantage of like mineral or oil resources. It also tells the planners if the soil is safe to live on and grow things in.

Analyzing the available resources – This includes making sure there is a water supply that is steady and secure.

Analyzing networks of communication – For example, the town planner Logan needs to make sure roads are connecting to the world beyond, that basic things like phone lines can be set up and so on.

Making sure the climatic patterns of the area are properly understood and that people can live there.

Making sure it is placed within some proximity to other towns, or 'settlements' so that there is an interaction between them, people have other places to travel to, do business with and so on.

There are also some important safeguards a town planner Gold Coast has to consider when undertaking town planning. There are a lot of amenities, facilities and such to consider for people to be able to live and work there happily. These safeguards can vary depending on what part of the world the town is being planned in, but can include things like;

  • Local wildlife – Investigating local wildlife and local habitats is an essential part of the planning process. This is for the sake of the animals and for the humans that may be moving in. Too often poor planning has lead to damage to habitats and displaced animals causing problems for townspeople.
  • Forest fires - Should there be trees and greenery around the town there needs to be an analysis of the risks of forest fires, considering how close the trees will be and what damage could happen.
  • Natural disasters – As mentioned some areas are prone to earthquakes and other natural events like flooding for example. This leads to soil erosion and safeguards have to be put in place to keep the town's structures and people safe.
